The Century Jazz Ensemble was created in 1981 by
Dr. John Zdechlik at Century College, formerly
Lakewood Community College, in White Bear Lake, MN.
The group was created as an outlet for talented musicians who
have an interest and ability in the area of big band jazz performance.
Membership has gradually changed over the decades
although there are still four original members in the ensemble!
Dr. Zdechlik retired from the college in 1997 at which
time Larry Neumann took over the directing duties.
The Century Jazz Ensemble has performed clinics and concerts at schools
throughout the upper Midwest. Clinic and concert opportunities are tailored to
fit the educational needs of the host schools. Past outreach experiences have
included performance critiques by members of the CJE, side-by-side
performances and rehearsals, and shared concerts with the CJE.
